My condolences to the Allen family!  Herman Allen was an honest & fair businessman!  He will be missed by the entire area of Mechanicsville & all the other places he lived.

We will be out of town and miss seeing the family.  Herman was one of my coaches in high school.  To be fair he was doing his student teaching and I was a senior at Hermitage High School.  I remember Herman as funny and knowledgeable about the sports we were playing.  Later on, I was fortunate to join a golf group, which included Herman in a group of good friends and businessmen.  RIP

I played Little League football with Coach Allen for two years around 79-80. My second year, I was too big for the division he coached in ("Midgets"), but I basically starved myself so I could play on his team. That's the kind of coach he was, and the kind of man he was. He inspired loyalty, respect and love. Herman Allen was a wonderful man and this world is poorer without him.
