Gentle George Withington was a lifetime friend to Newton, to Massachusetts and to me.  
Always quiet, friendly and respectful, George probably collected more petition signatures than any volunteer enabling citizens to vote to reduce the state income tax from 6% to 5% --  saving taxpayers thousands.
He defined being an "activist" citizen.  RIP my friend.
