Dad - you were one hellova guy - husband, father, friend, volunteer, bad joke teller, poor fasion sense guy, and someone who made everyone feel welcome and special. No words will ever describe you. We can try but we won't even come close. Please hold us in your heart the way we will hold you in ours. Peace!
Fred was so many things, but perhaps most of all, he was a storyteller. I learned this listening to his wedding toast to Tina and I. He was in his element, sharing stories of his daughter and family, in a loving and touching send off to her new life. Fred, we will miss you, and will do our best to treat your loved ones as well as you did.
So many memories but this is the first one. I was on the sidelines kicking a soccer ball with a girl I had just met as my brother played on the field. We hit it off and before I knew it we were asking our fathers if I could play on her team. Hingham Youth Soccer was in its infancy with so few players that at that time they played other towns. These towns prohibited girls from playing in games which was so confusing for a tomboy like me. Mr. Alexander didn't see gender... he didnt skip a beat. In his Boston accent he said "sure thing, we'll do it."
His smile was contagious and his warmth infectious. Thank you Mr. Alexander for your warmth, humor and unending energy.
