Eddie took up the game of golf at age nine, never taking golf seriously, being a perfectionist, he had a temper, not on himself, but on his golf clubs, blaming them for a strayed golf shot or putt that lipped out. Eddie won the Diablo Hills Club Championship four times. He contributed his golf swing to a Swing Plane Trainer, that he swung on in his spare time.
Eddie could fix anything, given time, drop off a broken object and Eddie would fix it. Putting in a new sprinkler system, Eddie said; “Please let me do it.” Well, he measured every which way and then some, upon completion of the sprinkler system which ended up flawless. “Not bad for a first time putting one in.” Eddie; "I believe in God, but I also look at the big picture."
Not everyone viewed Eddie as the perfect person, but as a child growing up in a home that he frequented, my Uncle Eddie was perfect. Sometimes I wouldn't see him for a few weeks, but I always knew he would come rolling in and it would feel as though he was just there the day before. It breaks my heart that that won't be the reality anymore. I vividly remember running out of the house screaming "Uncle Eddie" and being met with a warm hug. Growing up, he held me to high standards and expectations. He taught me so many lessons about life and made sure I knew not to take shit from boys. He was always the life of the party and made a whole room errupt in laughter with his quick one-liners. My friends grew to hold a similar excitement as me when Eddie would walk in. He was loved by all who met him on Adams Drive. Although it's been a while since I had seen him, he made sure that I knew he was proud of my degree from UCD. I wish I could tell him that I'm a high school teacher now and share in the laughter of the irony of that given my poor choices as a kid. I wish could tell him that a lot of my success is due to him always remembering to ask me about my school work. I wish I could tell him just how much he meant to me. I wish I could tell him that I love him. I'll miss you, Uncle Eddie.
