He was a man who liked the story of a critic who arrested was asked if he had a weapon. He handed the officer his pen. Yes, He was a man of words. he put many of them down in several novels one of which “Descent” attracted attention and potentially a Netflix movie one of these days. He was a great friend and an entertaining person to be around. A wit especially good with his wife Nan who could entertain a crowd a whole evening. We loved him and he loved us. He was a Doctor in the tradition of Chekhov, a man treating the soul as well as the body.

Dr. Donald Avoy was an amazing Doctor to work with. I worked with him in the methadone clinic in San Martin, Ca. On intake days, if we had space and someone was waiting as an alternative and it was closing time, Dr Avoy would look at me and smile and say, “Yes, let’s help this person!” That was Don Avoy. He loved his work almost as much as he loved his family. He will be remembered.
