I am so saddened to hear of the passing of my long time friend and mentor, "Frenchy" Maynard. I’ll miss his frequent visits to the Gallery where he always had new information to share on the city’s history. He was an extraordinary man and an asset to the community. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Peter Capodagli
I always enjoyed seeing Frenchy to hear his stories. You just never could tell what he might have uncovered in his research at the library, but you knew it would always be interesting. For so long, I only knew him as Frenchy. When I wanted to get in touch with him, I had to ask my parents what his real name was so that I could call. He was a treasure and will be missed. Anne O'Connor.
Frenchy, was a long time friend of our parents and we all got to know him and his wife. He was quite charismatic and seemed to know everyone! I was thrilled when I found out he had a summer home, on the Cape, less than a quarter mile from my home. We loved running into him, especially at the annual Woodshed Road Race, taking pictures. He will truly be missed. Catherine (Bates) LeBlanc.
I used to see Mr. Maynard in the Fitchburg Public Library all the time doing research. Great guy! He told me once that he liked that the Librarians all called him Mr. Maynard instead of Frenchy!
I met Frenchy through the Fitchburg Historical Society, where he knew Fitchburg's history, and our collections, so well that I might ask him for help in answering a question, because he would know exactly where to find it. As a man full of curiosity and affection for all, who never stopped learning, he has been an inspiration to me since I met him. All of us at FHS will miss him terribly.
I am truly saddened to hear of Donald's passing. I met him in Sept of 2019 while researching at the Fitchburg Historical Society. As we spoke, it came out that he knew my Dad and played basket ball with him as a young teen during WWII. He was able to make that period in my Dad's life and in Fitchburg's history come alive. For that I thank him and offer my condolences to his family.
Hello.
I found a very old photo of "Frenchy" Maynard in a batting stance 11 X 12 personally gifted to Michael Pandiscio when Michael turned 70. I would like to share this with a family member who can appreciate this wonderful picture which is in perfect condition.
