Dom or Uncle Dom, as known to many, was a simple, down to earth, straight shooting, kind person. He told you like he saw it! He was a huge sports fan, in particular, horse racing! He bought, sold and raced many horses over the years with his close friends Sam and Greg! He argued politics with anyone, including his Doctor before surgery, something I wouldn't have risked. No issue for Dom!
Uncle Dom was a long-time companion for my mother. who enjoyed doing the word jumble puzzles in the Herald. He walked (raced) up the square every morning to buy the paper. Read it cover to cover. Stayed up to speed on political activities watching Fox News until bedtime. At 98, he baffled the doctors with his still active life style and zest for life. Everyone who knew him will miss him!
Uncle Dom had a sweet tooth! I could hardly keep up with him. When I visited, I found myself having to make two pistachio cakes each visit because he could polish one off in two days barely leaving any for anyone else. Or cookies, 100 at a time and always needed to add extra anise because ‘he really wanted to taste it’. And chocolate... forget it. I will miss that! He enjoyed his sweets!
