I am very fortunate to have three of Sandy's "scratch out" B/W pictures. They are masterful and soothing. He was a gentle, sensitive man and will be missed.
Sandy was also a gifted teacher of English and taught for many years at the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge where I was honored to be his colleague. I recall visiting a class in which he taught The Old Man and the Sea to 8th graders, making huge demands on intellect and heart and yet with such humility and good spirit that he held everyone for 45 minutes. Just masterful!
