Chris was a mentor to me at EA and Williams. I was two years behind him, and he set a wonderful example for so many of us who attempted to follow in his footsteps in choral singing. I had the privilege of taking his place when he was ill in The college’s first European tour for its chamber singers in January, 1973. And Chris was so helpful in preparing me for this incredible trip.
I knew Chris through singing serious music in the Williams College Choral Society but we also sang in a much less serious small group with guitars, a bit like the New Christy Minstrrels. A fond memory is of an arrangement he wrote of Paul Simon's "For Emily Wherever I Might Find Her" with actual text painting worthy of a piece of "classical" music. My deepest condolences.
