My beloved husband, I have admired you as a teacher for many, many years besides thinking you are handsome and sexy, Rest in peace and know that your students, your colleagues, your family and friends are forever better off for knowing you. YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE!
CJ Howard, my mind searches for thoughts of how you mentored me by speaking, sharing, directing in many ways. Fishing, sports, life lessons, even gospel music (which I did listen, but knew which direction I would try first). Sharing your precious wife, Maryann as a dear sister to me. My words and my heart say "Absent from the body, present with the Lord". Enjoy, rejoicing in Heaven.
Ms. Burrell, my deepest condolences. I am very sorry to learn about the passing of your beloved husband.
Mariana, my deepest condolences for the loss of your husband. There are no words to help consul the loss of a loved one. All, I can do is hope that CJ, is now at peace and that you find peace in remembering the good times you spent together. May he always live in your heart and memory. I am grateful that I met you both.
Dear Mariana,
My deepest, sincerest condolences on the passing of your beloved husband. May he rest in peace. May you be provided with the fortitude and strength in order to find peace and carry on. May all of the memories you both created help you get through these dark, difficult days. You and CJ's memory will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Shani Branham one of Mr. Howard's students from STHS. He taught me in the year 94-95. He was a great teacher and as a black student at ST it meant a lot to me to be taught by him. Thank you Mr. Howard for the positive impact you had on my life and thank you for teaching me more about my Black Heritage in ST's 1st Afro-American History class.
You will be missed and always appreciated by not only me but the millions of students you've taught throughout your career. R.I.P.
My condolences to the family. I was a student at Santa Teresa back in 1994 and Mr Howard was my favorite teacher. I had him for History and I learned so much from him. I am saddened that he has passed and he will be missed. Thank you to Mr Howard for being such a great inspiration to me and many others. Rest in peace.
Dear Ms.Burell, I am so deeply sorry for the loss of Mr. Howard! Mr. Howard was a great teacher and it was such a pleasure to be in his class! He will forever be missed! My prayers are with you and your family!
My dearest Mariana,
When back in 1979 we first met at STHS nobody could have guessed myself writing this tribute for CJ. Brother! He once called me.
I can't express in words what I'd like to say. So I'll just say what we say in Basque:
Osasuna Enkomendatzeko!
Dear Mariana and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of CJ's passing. My words seem feeble comfort to you, but my hope is that you all will find peace and comfort knowing how much we care for you all.
Mariana/Howard Family: My deepest condolences as you prepare to eulogize/celebrate the life of a man I did not know well enough. I knew him via my brief employment at STHS & later as Mariana's husband. I can sincerely say I will miss his sweet face, our conversations over our mutual love of sports, & our giggles at whatever topic we chatted on. He remains strong & loveable in my memory.
CJ was such a gifted teacher and a warm-hearted person. He cared so deeply about human rights--teaching them, preserving them, and modeling them. We need more people like him in our world. I remember him as a dedicated and generous colleague and teacher. What a loss to us and to the ST community.
CJ became a very admired teaching colleague of mine during his last 10 years at Santa Teresa. I had a great admiration for his dedication and commitment to sharing his cultural experiences and knowledge. I know the wonderful relationship he had established with Mariana was joyous and rewarding one. However, it is now time to focus only on the joy and let the sorrow fade. Love never fades!
Dear Mariana,
I’m so sorry for the loss of your beloved CJ. While I didn’t know him personally, it sure is nice learning about him through the tributes and memories shared by others. He was clearly a wonderful and caring teacher, husband, and humanitarian.
I'm just discovering CJ's obituary after seeing a picture of him, Charles, my son Anthony, Vince and me taken in Santa Cruz when our boys were 8 or 9. CJ was a good buddy and housemate on the Westside and we were known to have great parties! (Sorry if that offends anyone) We both liked history, was one of few friends who knew more than me.
