Hether spent countless hours reading to her children, tutoring students and attending mass at Corpus Christi Church. Words cannot express what you meant to me, our family and so many friends, colleagues and students. Mom, you were amazing, you gave your life to your family and children and never ran out of patience, strength, compassion or love. You listened with your heart and gave with your soul, offering all you could daily. We were so lucky to be your children, we owe more than we could ever return to you in spirit, but won’t be able to return those gifts to your earthly being. The illness took you too soon and I cannot understand how this could have been God’s plan, but knowing your wisdom and unwavering faith, I trust that your glowing, loving and true soul will have gained you a special place in heaven. I will love you always, honor your spirit and remember you forever. Rest In Peace. I love you. Your youngest son, Toby Damien

Hether was an amazing lady, loving, caring, funny, smart, generous, a pleasure to be with anywhere, anytime. I will miss her so.
In one of the last emails that Hether and I shared, I wrote the following: Just the other day I was thinking back to a visit we were making to Vesuvius. Keeping in mind that both of us had done the climb before, I asked you if, in fact, you were planning to climb it again that day. I will never forget your response. Looking at me with eagerness and joy in your eyes, you said, “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” That struck a deep chord with me and, ever since, I have reminded myself NEVER to feel jaded, NEVER to take travel moments (or other moments) for granted and ALWAYS to be accepting and thankful for the opportunities that life has to offer

I met Hether when I taught her baby boy. We had fun together watching him learn. After she moved to another school, she recommended me to the director. Once again we were teaching together. She invited me to help chaperone the trip to DC twice! We went to estate sales, dinners, lunches, parties, rides in Model A’s and Quiz bowl filming. She was the best, smartest, caring friend ever.

Carole was truly a beautiful shining light of love, sweetness, and kindness in this world.  She never hesitated to come over to my desk with a smile and ask how I was.  Although we only knew each other through my work, she was truly one of the most kindest,  generous and caring souls I have had the honor of having crossed life paths' with.  I will very much miss you Carole.

I am so lucky because you were my Mom. You made sure I got a good education and you even helped me with my Latin homework. So well in fact that a classmate offered to pay me to tutor him. I love you Mom1. I think of you all the time and look to you as an example of how to live life with kindness and generosity of spirit.

I only found out today browsing Facebook that Hether was gone. Not terribly surprised because I'd realized I hadn't had an email in a while but devastated none the less. I had known her from the 5th grade in Buena Park at what she called Pifi - St Pius the 5th grammar school. We lost touch but recently reconnected. I am so sorry I never got to know her children. Love to Ed and all of you.
