Blair, you’re smile and quick laughter, that hahaha, or yup yup yup, rings in my ears. I’m thankful for all the holidays In your presence.  I remember the times, as a child, I spent with you on Martha’s Vineyard. The old little yellow car with no seat belts, bumping along back roads to swimming holes comes to mind.  You had such a genuine spirit of kindness. May you transition in peace <3

To Blair’s family,
I served on the Parish Committee of UUSMV with Blair. He also was part of a small group to start a PFLAG chapter on the island. I’ve missed having in in our midst.
With sincere and deepest sympathies for your loss.

The first time I ever met Blair was during a trip on which Liz and I went to Portugal, from our then base in Angola. Blair and Sondra met us halfway in glorious Lisbon.

After having been together with Liz for barely six months, I wanted everso much to make a good first impression to my future in-laws. One evening, Blair asked me if I would like a Martini. I looked at Liz, and wondered what I should do. She had told me before how seriously her parents took their Martinis, very dry; no ice, lest it dilute the gin; with the Vermouth just waved across the top of the glass - pretty much straight up gin. Despite not being much of a drinker, in fact, having survived even engineering school in Melbourne, Australia by always ordering just Campari & soda at the pubs, I knew I had to brave this adventure of my first Martini. Blair and I watched silently as the bartender prepared the drink. It felt almost like a rite of passage for me. He was so enthusiastic, I didn't want to let him down. Blair asked me how I wanted mine, to which I guessed I'd have it the same way as his. Then the moment of truth. We clinked glasses, and I put on a brave face before taking a sip. Blair watched intently for my reaction. I had never had anything so strong and bitter, burning my throat. Nevertheless, I managed a smile, and then politely said I didn't think it was exactly my preference. Blair then very graciously agreed to finish it for me, while I ordered some other drink, probably a Campari & soda. And we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our evening of fine Portuguese food.

This little experience showed just how much Blair was delighted to adopt me into his family, even though Liz and I were not yet even officially engaged at that point. Over the years he would continue to treat me always with great warmth and love, and I sensed from him an unspoken deep gratitude for my respect and love towards his own daughter and grand-daughters.

I miss you already very much, Blair, but relieved to know that you're no longer suffering, as you were during your last few years. Please now stay by our side, accompany us everyday, and guide us though the rest of our journey of life. Till we meet again. Love, Dom.
