This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Barbara U'ilani Jefimoff, 75, born on February 9, 1940. She passed away on September 12, 2015. We love you and will remember you forever.
~Homage to Barbara~
What a magnificent voyage you've had. Born in Hawai'i nei, yet nestled in your adopted home in the 'city by the Bay,' San Francisco. Crossing continents to Nigeria and finding your way back to your home, criss-crossing the blue Pacific to take a respite in Hawai'i Nei; traveling on to the southwest, to its people and pueblos; then, north to Alaska to snow-capped peaks
~continued~ and azure fjords; always finding your way back to the Bay. Settled in east-Bay and always on the move, with your unexpected final departure on that bright Saturday morning before venturing out for the day. Always seeking the best of both worlds, your spirit found its way home.
Aloha, dear U'ilani.~
Barbara,
Your smile (in the above photo)
tells a lot about you---such joy! You are missed and much loved by your sister and family.
Om mani padme hom....
I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone will stay that way,
I found that peace at close of day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh a
Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.
~Diamond Sutra, 'Fleeting World'
Little did we know that morning, God was to call your name.
In Life we loved you dearly, in Death we will do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. Love, Your friend Pat
It is with sincere regret that we note the passing of the following graduates.

I wrote this story about Barbara when we worked together long ago:
TURKEY TROT
I love reminders of crazy days long past. I am thinking this while gazing at a yellowed sales receipt from San Francisco's Marina Pet Shop. It's dated November 25, 1975. It shows a deposit of $18.95 made for "rental of one turkey."
I was working for a consulting firm in the financial district at the time, a start-up before that term was coined. One gutsy businessman rented space in a high rise building on Montgomery Street, spent a fortune on furnishings, and hired a close friend to assist him. Then he hired me to do everything else. I answered phones, made copies, kept financial records, typed proposals, dealt with contractors, and picked up the boss's dry cleaning.
If I ever get lung disease, I will blame it on the day I sprayed gold paint on the letters for the beautiful wood door at the entrance without wearing a protective mask. I was there for a year and a half until I got fired for not doing a good enough job of evading the banker--cash flow was a problem. By that time, I was eager to get back into teaching, where I could be the boss of my classroom, instead of having some guy with an inflated impression of his own worth ordering me around. I wanted my freedom.
But I stray from the turkey. The assistant, Barbara, was a textile artist who made beautiful weavings. We worked well together, grumbled about the boss together, and were always looking for ways to brighten our days. As Thanksgiving approached, we mused about how we could make this holiday season fun. We would of course be off on Thursday and Friday, but we wanted to pull some kind of prank on the boss before going off to eat turkey. So we wondered if we could bring a turkey to work.
One of us made some calls and we learned that the Marina shop had a turkey we could have for a day. That Tuesday, we went to the shop--Barbara must have had a pick-up truck or van, because the cage was at least three feet long and two feet high--and we brought the turkey back to the financial district. I can still remember the stares and laughs we got as we carried the cage down Montgomery Street, into our building and up the elevator to our floor. People actually asked if we were planning to eat him.
We deposited the cage in the open area of the office and waited for the boss to notice. He was of course dumbfounded, laughed and then asked how long it was going to be there and who was going to clean up the mess. It hadn't occurred to us that the turkey was not potty trained. We put some newspapers under the cage and enjoyed having the bird around for the rest of the day. There was some clucking and as much prancing as he could do in his small space, but the bird was pretty calm. I don't recall that we let him out of his cage--how would we have enticed him back inside? Unlike your garden variety wild turkey, this fellow was plump and round and didn't smell bad at all. We returned him to the pet shop before going home.
I thought about that live bird when I sat down to Thanksgiving dinner that year. And I think of him every time I remember my days on Montgomery Street. I was able to break out of the cage that office had become for me. I went back to teaching and a long and fulfilling career in education. I hope the turkey eventually went to some nice farm where he could live out his days pecking at corn and fulfilling his turkey dreams.

Life is yours ke Akua
Look upon us your children
Grant us life until we walk with a cane
Until our eyes are blurred
Until our skin is like dried hala leaves
Until we reach old age
Then take us back into the presence
of Wakea.
A precious one from us, has gone
A voice we loved is still
A place is vacant in our hearts
That only God can fill
Rest In Peace Barbara
