I was fortunate to know Ara, and to work with him for a brief time at T&L in the 1980's.  He was one of the most brilliant engineers I have ever met.  I learned more about construction materials working with Ara than in my undergraduate education In Civil Engineering at MIT.  As gifted as he was, Ara was also a genuinely nice person.  My sympathies to Virginia, David, and the family.
