Hi Mom-I know you are at peace.  I just feel it through the spirit we are connected in. When we talked I told you a zillion times how much I love you and thanked you for being the best and most nurturing mom to me.  You always made me feel good about myself no matter what. There is to short a space here to for me to spill on about our relationship.  I love you and thank you for everything!

My sweet sweet Sitto went to sleep in peace and woke up in heaven. While my family grieves the loss of her on earth, the Lord celebrates and welcomes her home.  I am so grateful for the years and memories I was blessed to share with my grandmother. I just happened to call her this past Saturday instead of our weekly Sunday time slot, getting the opportunity to talk with her in her final hours of life.

Sitto, there is so much I will miss.
I will miss hearing you say “she’s so cute” as you hand the phone to Giddo on our weekly phone calls. I will miss your voicemails on the Sundays I didn’t get a chance to call, making sure I was ok. I will miss your incredible cooking - no matter what it was, even cape cod chips, it was always better once you touched it.  I will miss our knitting and cooking lessons and will make sure to carry on all the traditions I learned, especially grape leaves. I will miss your preparedness - how you would make yourself a sandwich to take me to the airport just in case you got hungry. I will miss how you used to make us giggle whenever we took pictures by telling us to say “shit” so we would all smile. I will miss sending you videos that I knew you would cherish and watch dozens of times on your iPad.  I will miss your endless generosity and hospitality - making sure not to compliment your things because I knew you would go buy me 3 of whatever it was. I will miss the way you talked about Giddo and how grateful you were every single day of your 66 years of your marriage. I will miss your stories - how you always made me laugh.

You were the life of the party and I hope you have a vodka on the rocks with an extra cup of ice up there to celebrate. I pray that you are reunited with your family in heaven and you are smiling down on us with joy and pride.

Thank you for making your family so close. I am grateful to have them near at a time like this. We will take care of Giddo, your best friend. Thank you for your support throughout our lives, even sending me to my first prom. .

I love you so much and will always remember you, Sitto. You have left a legacy on me and the entire Kouri family.

My dear Sitto, my heart already aches for you, and for your best friend, my Giddo, who lost his best friend of 66 years. I am so extremely grateful to have had 35 beautiful years with you. You have given me the sweetest childhood, full of amazing memories at your warm cozy home, the cape, Florida, and simply giving us all you could give as grandparents. I remember looking at you as a young girl, with pride, as I thought you were one of the most beautiful elegant women I had ever seen, and you were my Sitto. All you ever wanted for me was to meet a nice man and settle down. You got to see that wish come true. Our last time together was spent celebrating my wedding, listening to stories and sharing so many laughs about your own wedding and telling me, over and over again, how much you adored my new husband. I cannot mourn your passing but instead celebrate the happy, long life you lived as a proud wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I know you’re watching over us tonight playing candy crush on your iPad, reading the latest silly Hollywood gossip magazine, crocheting a scarf for one of your grandchildren or whipping up a batch of the best grape leaves in the world- whatever it is, you’re sipping a vodka on the rocks with a lemon twist and side of ice (to water it down), hoping we don’t make a fuss over you or do “too much.” Sitto, I miss you beyond words but will do my very best to emulate the woman you were and hold your memory close to my heart. I love you more than I could ever express.
