A WORLD SOMEWHAT DIMINISHED
Last week the town of Weymouth lost another of the faces of its political Mount Rushmore. With the passing of former Senator Allan R. McKinnon we have clearly seen the end of an era in Weymouth politics.
McKinnon the former school teacher, political Boy Scout and liberal lion, created one of the legislatures’ most talented and responsive staffs which included Peg McKenzie, Norma Fenochietti, Patty Belcher, Brian McDonald and Libby MacDonald. The highly ethical liberal McKinnon battled for over thirty years for improvements and legislative changes benefitting the South Shore.
In addition to his work in politics McKinnon was a family man stressed the importance of involving family in every effort. His family worked and performed at Steak Bakes and his wife was always present and always the best dressed most attractive and preferred company in every social setting as well as his most trusted adviser and the most talented campaigner he had.
With his passing Weymouth, is somewhat diminished but thankful for the former school teacher turned politician who never forgot where he came from.
