Alden Pakros Jr. was born September 21, 1948 to Al and Irona Pakros in Oakland, California.   He grew up in a military family, traveling extensively in his childhood.

He served multiple tours in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, on the U.S.S. Westchester County, a tank-landing ship that sustained some of the largest ship damage in the Vietnam War.

Alden described it as utter quiet one moment, then pandemonium the next.  He was sleeping mere feet from the hole--"Everyone was asleep, then thrown from our berths by the huge explosion--total darkness, water flooding in, everyone scrambling for their lives".

He went on to serve three more tours of duty afterwards.  Upon honorable discharge, he spent several years enjoying life in Hawaii.

On August 20, 1983, Alden married Sammie Meredith in Roseburg, Oregon, drawn by their mutual productive nature and great sense of fun.  Sammie predeceased Alden this past October.

Throughout Alden's career he worked as a custodian at Roosevelt Elementary School as well as at the Superior Athletic Club in Medford, OR.

Upon invitation, he would visit classrooms studying the Vietnam War, sharing his experience with the students.

His grandchildren were the light of his life, enjoying 12 years of really grand Grandfatherhood.

He is survived by his daughter Jillian McCulloch, and three grandchildren, AJ, Blake, and Megan. He is also survived by his brothers Greg and  Miles, of Roseburg.  His parents, as well as brother Vic predeceased him.

Alden was interred at the Veteran's Cemetery in Eagle Point; his father's, brother's, and his flags were donated to Eagle Point's Avenue of the Flags.  A Veteran's memorial will take place at the VA Domiciliary after the Coronavirus contagion passes.
