You don't realize how much someone really means to you until....
The last 3 months of taking care of my wife were absolutely the best . We became closer together than ever before. I miss her so. But God willing I will be with her in 23 years when I turn 100. Be patient baby. i will love you forever.
I would not be the woman I am today if it wasn’t for all your love, guidance and most of all patience. You taught me what it means to be selfless and compassionate towards others. You also showed me what it is to be strong and never be a victim. I will always hold your love and words of wisdom close in my heart. I love you Mom and miss you terribly.
Patient, generous, positive, kind, and fun loving! Aggie always put her family first. The world has lost a lovely person.
I am forever grateful that my dad, Steve Baron, was able to read the following letter aloud to Aggie in her final days. I share it here because I want these memories to be forever remembered and because I want her grandchildren to know what their grandma meant to me.
Dearest Mr. and Mrs. McAuley ,
I can not seem to remember my childhood without the two of you and the McAuley children in the picture.
Aggie, you were my mom's best friend... her entire adult life. I remember when you two left to go rescue a 3 year old Serrina down in Fresno or thereabouts when a visit went sideways. You Mamas were so brave. My mom kept saying on repeat, "That baby ate 3 hamburgers from McDonald's!" And you brought her home safe and became superheroes in my mind.
I remember collecting van load upon van load of newspapers (newspapers!) to recycle for softball team funds. And don't get me started with the aluminum cans. Oh, how we kids thrilled at the chance to hold and use the Can Crusher instead of our shoes. And, of course, the frozen pizzas. The best tasting cardboard in Cupertino.
Aggie, you were my second mother. And I loved you because of the way my mother lit up when she was with you. I loved you because I always knew we were safe when you two were around.
Thank you for the rides to Wood-N-Peg, matching Kimonos Jim brought back from a business trip to Japan that Jen and I wore to Kindergarten on Halloween. Thank you for the sandwiches and cocoa when we straggled in randomly for lunch on ski days at Boreal in Donner Lake. Oh! And the sunburned days at THE CLUB that we got to be honorary McAuleys to attend. Mostly, I thank you for setting an unbeatable (I can say my parents tied here) of what a loving, devoted and unwaivering marriage looks like.
I am honored to have been part of the swirling mass of children that surrounded you (and still does!)
I am so happy that you are enveloped by family and friends as you open your heart to the next, most precious, part of your journey. This world is better for having known you. I, am better for having known you.
Give my mom a hug for me.
I love you, Mrs. McAuley.
