Adorna was a professor of mine at UMass/Boston in the mid 60s. She was one of the most down-to-earth professors I ever had. Her classes were always interesting, interactive, relevant, and peppered with humor. She treated her students with great respect and she endeavored to know each one of us. We kept in contact over the years and I had been planning to visit her until COVID-19 intervened

My wife and I got to meet her mother, daughter Anita, brother Lee, and his wife. Adorna was like family. We talked regularly on the phone over the years and it was always a delight to hear her voice. I very much regret not seeing her again before she passed. I will forever hold her in my memory as a highlight in my life.

I had the privilege of knowing Adorna through my relationship with her daughter Anita in high school class of 83 Glory Days! Adorna was always entertaining and often had us rolling in laughter, she was kind-hearted and generous. She made the world a better place for others, rest in peace gentle woman.

My memories of Adorna stem back to when we first arrived in the United States in the mid 70s.  I was just a child , but I recall her and "Uncle Raj" having us over many times for dinners and social events.  She was always welcoming with that East Coast "edge".  Makes me laugh now when I think back on it.  A wonderful family and person, rest in peace.

I met Dr. Walia as an undergraduate student at the same time and place as Dr. Leo Sandy (above).   As a shy and insular veteran of the Vietnam War, the many barriers to my socializing with others in civilian post-military-service environments were lowered through the ingratiating, genuinely open, and charismatic classroom persona of Adorna Walia.  Her positive impact on my life is ongoing.
