I knew Steve from our ceramics class. He was such a generous and kindly fellow. Always helpful with advice but willing to learn new tricks himself. His sculpture was ambitious and inspiring. Unforgettable!
I will deeply miss his earthy, funny, charming presence.
Mr. Klatt was a wonderful and inspiring teacher. He taught me ceramics which I still have some pieces I made from his class since they were so unique to make. He taught me things I'll never forget and loved when he called me 'Krishna'. I hope his kids know how special and unforgettable their dad was. And I hope this helps you in your time of great loss.
I know it's been 5 years ago since his passing, but I just found out about Mr. Klatt's passing today ?? may he always be remembered ??
My memory of him... he was the coolest teacher. During my freshman year at Newark Jr High he was my 3rd period class (history or social studies class) I was not myself because a bully in my 1st period class pressured me to taking paper acid with her because she didn't want to take it alone, she told me if I didn't take it with her she would kick my ass after school, so I did it. And she threatened if I told on her that she would also beat me up. I'll never forget that day. Walking to my second period class which was cooking class, I started feeling funny and during class that's when everything went slow motion and I couldn't even cook or do anything, a friend of mine in class knew I was trippin' so she helped me through the class and walked me to my 3rd period class to Mr Klatt, I sat towards the back of the classroom and he knew instantly something was wrong with me. He ended up showing a video for class so I could rest it off. And after class was over, it was lunch time so he told me to stay for a few minutes. He looked at my eyes and asked me who gave me drugs, I told him I couldn't say anything. He was so mad for me and told me never to ever take any drugs again. And to not be afraid to tell on that person, I stayed quiet, so he gave me some water and one of my friends waited for me to go to lunch, so Mr.Klatt gave me some money and told my friend to make sure I ate something so I could be myself again. He was such a caring teacher. I'm just sad I didn't get to visit him while he was still teaching.
