I met Dr. Field when I was 10. He came over to see my father Stan Macfarlan. They both loved Lionel toy trains. When my sister broke her arm he was the first person he called and he met them at the hospital and set her arm. I visualize then together again watching the toy trains go around the track. Blessings, Marylou

I got to be a member of John's family after my mom married John's brother Charlie. So many great things came to our family including John!  I connected with John on our mutual love of folk music. I loved his big smile and the way he slipped funny side comments into the conversation. Sending love to all the family. Cristi

John had a constant smile, good humor, thoughtful consideration, and great intellect. We spent many hours cataloging Leitz microscopes and discussing Leitz history. John helped me regain microscopy skills and thus enabled my research to find new mercury minerals. As a fellow microscope user and enthusiast, I will surely miss John's friendship and guidance. Sincere condolences, Michael Cox

I knew John's brother, Charlie, before I ever met John.  I was a member of Kaiser Permanente and of course when I needed some orthopedic help, Charlie suggested his brother John.  He was the kind of doc you always hope you'll find and almost never do:  really brilliant, a wry sense of humor and a great 'bedside manner'; the same qualities he brought to his family and friends; a great man.
