Dorothy Mae Roskie, peacefully passed away at home.
Dorothy, was born to John and Minnie McCarnes.   She was the first person in her family to graduate from college, with the help of her two older sisters who saved their money and ration books so she could have the necessary supplies. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Carbondale at Southern Illinois University and obtained a teaching credential.  After WWII, Dorothy moved to Sacramento California where she started a family and taught in public elementary schools, primarily 1st grade and kindergarten.
In 1975 she married Robert Roskie and together they enjoyed 43 years of marriage.
She taught for nearly 30 years. She was a lead soprano in her church choir, enjoyed square dancing, knitting and sewing and bowling, spending time with her family and going on adventures with her husband and best friend, Bob.
Always friendly, kind and positive, Dorothy was also an organizer, coordinating sewing groups, exercise classes, bingo games and socials for her residential park in Pacheco.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert Roskie, her daughters Sue Ann Hurley, and Linda Civitello; her grandchildren Joseph and Matthew Hurley, Aileen and Nicholas Joy and Paul Civitello; her great-grandchildren, Dominic, Angelia and Damon John and her niece, Gayle Lawrence and her in-laws Jim Roskie and Joanne Roskie.  She is preceded in death by her son, John Civitello, her sisters, Earline Henson and Marie Maddox and her parents.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice of the East Bay.
