I worked with Andy Whittemore for over 20 years at the Brigham where he was a highly skilled and valued surgeon, educator and leader. As the Hospital's Chief Medical Officer he combined a sensitive understanding of medical staff issues with a firm determination to prevent problems that might interfere with the highest quality patient care. In sum, Andy was both a gentleman and a mensch.

Dr. Whittemore was not only a superb physician but also a cherished childhood friend. His dedication to his patients and his unwavering kindness touched the lives of many. His legacy of compassion and excellence in medicine will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
