CL was my brazen and beloved 'partner in crime' in many a courtroom where our Acalanes Mock Trial team practiced and competed A most uncommon common man, CL wowed the students with his joie de vivre, incisive mind, quick wit, passion and most of all, that trademark 'knee slapping' throaty laugh of his. His legend lives large in all of us. Larry Freeman, AHS teacher of 40 years.
I am so sorry to hear of CL's passing. My love and prayers are with his family. I was a court reporter in Contra Costa Superior Court from 1975-1989 and had the pleasure of knowing CL and working with him. I used to fill in with CL and Bill Glass and Judge Richard Arnason and others during the mock trials..I laughed so much I could hardly report the trials.
Just now learned of CL's passing.
CL was a HUGE inspiration in my life. As a young prosecutor I took notes of the advise of OG"s in the office. CL instructed on jury selection (although stories about his closing arguments were legendary). I carried those notes with me in every case I tried thereafter. He was an irreplaceable icon of truth and justice. Hal Jewett
