Beverly Camille Blount (lovingly referred as “Ducky”) was born on December 7, 1950 in Swan Quarter, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by mother and father Roxson P. and Ody Blount, brother Roxson P. Blount Jr., God-parents Calvin and Anne Harris.

 

Beverly received early religious training from Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Then she earned a double Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Exceptional Education from Norfolk State University.  After college, she taught public schools for 33 years in Luneburg, Richmond, and Norfolk, VA.

 

She later received a Master of Divinity from Virginia Union University, and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Norfolk State University. She also studied at North Carolina A&T State University, Hampton University, University of Virginia, and New York University.

 

Beverly loved the word of God. She was a licensed and ordained minister. She became a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Richmond, VA and preached her trial sermon at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Norfolk, VA. Reverend Blount served in the music, usher, and youth ministries. While at Mount Lebanon, she was appointed by the pastor to serve as the Minister of Worship. Beverly was also an active member of the Volunteer Choir in Richmond, VA.

 

She leaves to mourn her husband Calvin Dunaway; two sons Robert Matthews (special friend Cathy) and Johnnie Jarman Jr. (Taya); two grandsons Johnnie “Tripp” Jarman III and Tyler Jarman; God-sister Valarie Jones (Michael); nephew Roxson Blount III and James Blount; niece Arlette Blount; Great-nephew Thomas Blount, Great-nieces Briana Blount, Raven Ligon and Destiny Ligon; sister-in-law Joyce Blount; two special friends, Vivian Hubbard and Clem Smith; and a host of other cousins, friends, and loved ones.

Ducky, thank you for sharing your voice, love and spirit with us at Chamberlayne Baptist Church.  I have learned much from you the last year that I will keep with me in my own ministry.  I will see you again in God's great eternal Tenor section.
