I met Bernie Spring in 1961.I was a student in his Environmental Studies course at Cooper Union. He was for me, and many others, both a mentor and a beacon as we moved on through our careers. He was instrumental in my admission to Harvard's GSD, my Fulbright Fellowship. my Princeton Professorship, and my CCNY career. He helped forge a universal role for design in our ever-changing world.
I will always remember Bernard for his kind and gentle manner, his sense of humor and his dedication to his students. You wish you could have shared more time with the special people life blesses you with, but I am eternally grateful for the time given to me. May angels guide you home Bernard.
