Hello Friends, Family, and Colleagues of Anthony Blackett. I would appreciate any thoughts or memories you would like to share about my father.
Thank you,
Sido
Hello Sido,
We didn't see Tony for many years but often heard about him through Karen. He visited us once in Great Barrington perhaps ten years ago, and it was lovely touching back into when we were all in Somerville. He was always fun to be with, and we enjoyed his wry English wit. After we went to England he bought our house. Grateful memories!
I knew Tony for close to 50 years, as his daughter and mine have been lifelong friends since they were 2 years old. Our families spent a good bit of time together in the early years, and got to know Tony well. He was a consummate professional , well regarded in his field. More than that, he was a fantastic father to Sido in every way. He will be missed
My grandpa never missed a birthday, holiday, school concert, or play. He was a constant presence in our lives, always there to support us. Recently, I've cherished our conversations about current events, politics, his memories, my future plans, and his studies of metaphysics. His boundless curiosity about the world inspires me, and I strive to continue his legacy of embracing curiosity.
Some of my favorite early childhood memories are from your father’s home in Arlington. He created an atmosphere that was creative and boundless, we explored and grew independently in this space of love. Tony was a fantastic and one-of-a -kind man and father.
I feel so lucky to have grown up knowing Tony as a close family friend. I benefitted from knowing his humour, intellect, and always curious and engaged mind. He was a devoted and loving parent, grandparent and friend. I will miss his good-humored curmudgeonly views on life and his delight in poking holes my understanding of the world. He will be deeply missed.
My family lived with Tony and Sido from 1977 to about 1987, first in Somerville and then in Arlington. We shared many meals together, family outings, holidays and big projects of restoring the house in Arlington. Tony was like a father to me during those years, always happy to spend time with me, such as ping pong in the basement. I am forever grateful, thank you!
I met Tony when we were students in London where we shared a flat. We also celebrated our 21st birthdays there together. I'm amazed that we stayed in touch for the next 60 years despite our occasional philosophical differences. Tony was loyal, and very kind. I was touched by his devotion to Sido and his grandchildren and I will sorely miss our many reunions in VT
