This memorial website was created in memory of our much beloved sister, Selene Makarios, who was born Thor Alan Bestul. We miss her sorely.
Selene was the youngest of four siblings, of which I am the second-born. Her unexpected and untimely death is unfathomable.
I urge you, please, to share with us your memories of Selene and Thor.
Godspeed and Heart's Desire
Selene dearly loved my daughter, her niece. The summer she was born, my family all flew in and gathered at my house near Chicago for a weekend trip to Door County. Selene walked in the door, greeted me, and proceeded down what she (correctly) presumed was the hall to the bedrooms. She found my daughter’s room, scooped her up from the crib and walked back to join us, holding the baby close, clearly enamored. I could only smile at the affection.
I was deeply sorry to hear of the loss of your beautiful Selene. She had beauty and (extra) brains, and it's fabulous to see her smile and accomplishments here, My heart hurts for your loss, truly. The photos and stories are wonderful. Remarkable life and person.
Sadly, I never knew Selene, the brilliant and beautiful adult. As her/his first cousin, I did know Thor as a child. Thor and his family drove to our farm in Minnesota for a two week vacation every summer for many years. As the younger cousin group, Thor, Nina and I spent a lot of time together during those careful summer days! I remember Thor and those visits fondly! ?
Dear Selene, How sad that you have left us and gone ahead. Rest in Peace, you beautiful heart.
I knew Selene Bestul as my colleague in Macromedia for 2 years. She was vivacious, always smiling and a great sense of wit and humor. I got to know her and Heather and many an evening we spent laughing, eating take out and watching absolutely silly TV. I miss her charm and smile.
