Rita moved to Boulder Creek in 1967. She ran a Day Care Center from her ranch for several years and then worked as a Cashier at Johnnies Super Market for 4 years. Returning to her homeland, Denmark for 5 years, Rita managed Kulhus Kro and  Inn and worked as a substitute school teacher. She returned to Boulder Creek where she retired after a 10 year carrier at Lockheed in 1991. Never one to sit quietly, she began a carrier as a Tour Host for Golden Age Travelers Club escorting hundreds of people on tours and cruises worldwide. This carrier culminated with a Round-the-World cruise aboard Queen Mary II, sailing in under the Golden Gate Bridge as her family waived to her from shore. Rita loved the outdoors-especially the Redwoods, and any opportunity to swim in the ocean, a pool or a lake. She loved her home on the Golf Course in Boulder Creek and never passed an opportunity to have friends over for a party or a Danish “Cold-Table” Feast.
Rita embodied the spirit of a civic leader and volunteered as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Den Leader, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a 4-H Leader, Red Cross Emergency Response Volunteer, she participated on the YMCA Board for San Lorenzo Valley where she was honored as volunteer of the year, served as an Election Poll Worker and called Bingo and served at the Boutique of the Scotts Valley Senior Center. Rita was also active with the Red Hat Society.
Everyone was treated by Rita as family, all were expected to conduct themselves with manners and civility, and she was called “Mom” by hundreds.
We will miss you Mother, and Skall!

My dear friend is sooo missed.  We traveled to Solvang to see all that is Danish.  Rita was in her realm of comfort.  Pastry shops, I ordered one and of course she ordered two, with a twinkle in her eye.  The evenings we shared together sharing the raising of our children and determined when our children hurt, we hurt.  Eating crab Louis at Gilda’s and going to parks overlooking the ocean.????

One of my favorite memories was our family vacation to California where we stayed in Boulder Creek at Rita’s beautiful home in the redwoods. She was so welcoming that we have always felt a part of her family. It is a rare person that can so quickly forge deep lasting connections. I am fortunate to have known her.

I'm sending my deep sympathy to all of Rita's family.  I'm not sure I ever met Rita in Georgia, but she left a trail of warmth and enthusiasm for life that I see in her daughter, Linda.

What an amazing and adventurous life she had!  I loved reading her biography.  She was a beacon for all of us.

Thinking of mom, this time last year. Miss her as much now as ever. Watching your flowers budding brings back memories of how much you loved to garden. I only have one green "pinkie" compared to your 10 green thumbs, but your flowers are returning, sending your love my way. Ever grateful, love you always!

When Bob and I would plan a cruise, the first thing we wanted to know was if Rita was going to come along.  What a wonderful sense of humor.   It was always great to be with her.
God bless Rita always.
