Mr. Phil Tobey was my 5th grade teacher at Milton. He was a nice man, always respectful to me and my family, and was a good teacher. I saw him occasionally over the years at Milton reunions. When my Father passed many years later, Mr. Tobey sent us a kind sympathy card completely out of the blue which was a very decent and appreciated gesture on his part. Mr. Tobey was a good man, RIP.
As my math teacher, Mr. Tobey never took a dogmatic approach. He recognized that we all learned math differently and I remember that he always took the time to explain a concept or problem until I understood. He was kind and warm, and I'll always remember his smile. My condolences to the Tobey family for your loss. Please know I am but one of many whose lives he made better.
