Myrna was a very caring and generous person.  She was always looking out for other people. When we would go hiking, she often would bring extra clothing to share with those who forgot a jacket or hat. She liked to give gifts of appreciation to  anyone who had done a good job for her or shown her a kindness.

The obituary did not mention that Myrna passed away after a 12-year battle with lung cancer; she fought bravely from her first diagnosis, undergoing surgeries and chemotherapy for many years and living life to the fullest during periods of remission.  She displayed great courage and optimism and was an inspiration to all her many friends.
After Rolland’s death, Myrna became even more active in their hiking club, hitting the trails regularly every Tuesday and Thursday morning.  Nature and animals were her passion; she became an expert identifier of wildflowers and looked forward to their return every spring. She organized week-long hiking trips for members of the group, and many women are grateful to her for memorable visits to Sedona, Yellowstone, Bryce & Zion, Yosemite, Kirkwood, and Death Valley . In most cases they rented rooms or cabins and did all their own cooking.  Myrna’s tacos were always a hit.
Everyone who knew Myrna benefited from her generosity, her consideration, her empathy. She was always the first to bring a card for everyone to sign when someone was in the hospital or had a birthday . If any hiker forgot to bring a bag lunch, Myrna always had an energy bar or trail mix to share.  At any gathering, she was the first volunteer to  set up and the last to leave when clean-up was completed.
Myrna never took herself too seriously  She had a much appreciated and somewhat irreverent sense of humor. Her favorite expression when things looked bleak was, “It is what it is.” And no matter how bleak, she didn't complain.
Though her physical condition deteriorated, and eventually she could no longer walk or even get out of bed, her mind remained sharp;  when she realized that fighting was no longer helpful she gave into the inevitable with her signature grace and courage.
