I met Bill when he began teaching at U of R. I was one of his first students and I think his first research assistant. He was a loved mentor and friend. He and Barbara came to my wedding. It has been about 10 years since I last saw him in person, but I have thought of him often. He was always inspiring and motivating. We have lost a wonderful man. Marie Tiedemann
I really met Bill while battling an illness during my time at U of R. He was amazingly caring and encouraging throughout my recovery. I later followed Bill's advice to join UVA for graduate school. Bill was calm and available to his students, but intensely engaged with life in the moment. My family, which began in C'ville, is so grateful for his support and inspiration.
