To Family and Friends, Please accept my condolences. The loss of someone dear to us can leave us devastated and asking why. We can find comfort in God's words: “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more.”—Revelation 21:4. Wally was a passionate, exciting scholar. He was deeply concerned with social justice and was extraordinarily nurturing to younger academics. He is sorely missed

My heartfelt condolences to Wally's family and friends. Wally will be remembered for his wisdom and passion for social justice. As a founding member of LALS, Wally was often referred to as our department's "sage"--for his knowledge and sound advise. He will be profoundly missed but our lives have been enriched by his presence.

To Lois and the family, we are so sorry for your loss. Wally was a long-time friend and a great guy. Just yesterday we were talking about following in his footsteps and becoming researchers in birding or tourism or such like. We had a great time in Istanbul and discovered Alexander's Parrots in Gulhane Park. Ar dheas Dé go raibh a anam.

Wally was my favorite teacher at UCSC.  He was a gifted lecturer, taught with grace and humor.  An east coast guy on the west coast like me and we bonded over that.  Every time I went back to SC I made a visit to his office to write on the post-it what I was up to as he wrote my rec letter for architecture gradschool - Thanks Wallly, you had a huge impact on many many lives RIP
