I remember that there wasn't a time that I saw Dick that he didn't have a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He was very well read and I loved talking history with him. He was always so enthusiastic. My kids and dogs loved him. One time, my dog ran away. It was getting dark and here came Dick and Pat, flashlights in hand and helped us search late into the night. He will be missed.
I will begin searching my Lee Mathson yearbook to see if there are any pics of coach and Patricia lurking from over 50 years ago.....a very young good looking couple when I was just 12......
I will cherish the many good times and wonderful dinners with Dick and Pat. Dick always had that special bottle of wine to share. His kindness and good humor lives on in our hearts.
Tim and I were first drawn to Dick by his friendliness and easy charm. For 49 years, we enjoyed his friendship, his stories, and his warmth and good humor. Dick was a well-read man who loved to discuss history and to delight children. His "Igor" character thrilled our children for years. Sharing holidays with Dick and Pat was always a treat. Pat brought pies and Dick brought stories.
The world has lost a kind, friendly, intelligent man that has made an impression on many, including me. Pat, he was so lucky to have found you and to have made a great life together!
Dick was one of the most likable guys I ever knew. Full of happiness and friendship. His life was enriched when he married Pat. He will be greatly by everyone who knew him. I am sure that everyone loved having him as their PE teacher.
