Dr Gills was my physician for 30 years, until I moved to the Valley. I discovered he was out of town when I suffered severe abdominal pain so went to his backup physician, who sent me to a surgeon. The surgeon had a list of 4 possibilities, scheduled me for exploratory surgery. The Monday of surgery Dr. Gills came into my room and said, “I just got back in town, saw your name on the surgery schedule. What’s this all about?” I updated him on the surgeon’s prognosis and Dr. Gills said he’d follow what happened, and see me tomorrow. The next day he reassured me I would recover quickly, that only a “slightly reddened appendix” was found, #4 on the surgeon’s list. Then he left me with a get well card. The card’s cover stated, “Don’t be concerned, your doctor has done this surgery on hundreds of people before you.” Inside it said, “Whether they needed it or not!”.
That was Dr. Gills, a comforting, competent doctor with a wonderful sense of humor.
So sorry to learn of his loss but grateful he had 92 years to share his energy, humor, and fun with so many of us.

I met Ray and Joanne working as the chef @ Wilderness Place Lodge in1990, and became good friends. I fished kings with Ray- he told me they weren't biting because of my hat. They would bring me a Costco 6 pack of Del Monte canned pears for my birthday. Charming, elegant couple. Vaya con dios! Michael Perlov
