We are heartbroken for this beautiful family, We only knew Nate for a short time but in that time we come to know that Nate was a kind man, a good husband, and a wonderful father. Nate is now a warrior angel for God and will be watching over his family for ever. REST IN PEACE IN THE ARMS OF OUR LORD NATE. Sent with love from (Neena and Bumpa) Marion and Leonard Emery

Matt MacGregor I met Nate when he was playing in bands with my friends. I’m not a musician, and our friendship grew out of shared interests in movies, cartoons, sports, and games.
Years ago, I listened to some of the music my dad liked. And while most of it didn’t stick, the song The Highwaymen” from the Outlaws ( Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson) really spoke to me. If you don’t know the song, please listen to it and the below will make a little more sense. I wrote a verse for Nate, I miss you man, and hope someday I see you again.
My name was Nathan, and I loved to play guitar,
Up on the stage, I was a star.
With wife and friends I played long into the night.
Despite the odds, I never backed down from a fight.
The cancer took me in the March of seventeen.
But I will still be seen.

David Breen Allot of memories of Nate DunneNate he lived life to the fullest. Hope you don't mind a funny story, but thinking about Nate the one that stands out in my
mind is the 2003 July 4th party. We were all including Nate hammered and Nate decides he wants to impersonate Stone Cold Steve Austin. He goes out on the railing of the porch balcony and beers are being thrown at him and he does the signature beer can smash.
Sorry Shelly I'm sure this isn't your favorite memory as you started screaming at him to get down, still it was pretty funny.

Down in Warwick for a fun overnight with family & friends. I haven’t been to the memorial since the fire so I wanted to take a detour first to pay my respects.
I bumped into another guy doing the same and we got to talking.
He asked me if I played there that night 16 years ago. I told him that my band played there all the time & were offered that gig but wound up taking an opening slot on the C.C. DeVille show there like a month before instead. Turns out he was a Fall River firefighter who got the call that night, I can’t imagine what he saw.
We had a good talk then we shook hands. I’m guessing there’s a lot of encounters like that there.
All that and this happens to be the anniversary of my friend & bandmate Nate Dunne losing his battle with cancer.
Once in a while we’re reminded to take time and smell the flowers. This was one of those days.
Have a great weekend!

Nate Dunne and Michelle Mugnano Story: When we were friends and I first started playing bass in the band, Nate and I both being Bass pick players, however Nate was a fantastic seasoned player and I a hack. Back In our Selling Venus Days when Nate on GTR and me on Bass, full bore into our Medal practice Nate stopped the music yelling "WTF is wrong with this Bass amp?" "Wtf is going on, the bass sounds like crap!" then looks at my hand and said "Shell WTF is this ?!" Whips the stubby pick out of my hand and flings it across the room, quickly swaps a Dunlop made in the USA 1.5 mm heavy. "here try this real pick!!" I busted out laughing my ass off, Mike Breen and Jeff Aufiero were nodding their heads with big smile son their faces. I started to play and The bass started driving like mad" Another Great Nate and Shelly Story! We always laughed while reminiscing on that day.  :-) To know Nate was to Love Nate Dunne Truly... Miss him Terribly...

Playing the Bar-B-Bar with Safety Tested Boston. I'm lugging in my electronic toms since I'm the percussionist. My husband asks me "Can I help you move your gear babe?"
Shelly starts to yell and curse at Nate, because he didn't offer to help her.

It's ibd awareness week. I have been fighting this disease for 17 years. It has not been easy. Though i have been fortunate to avoid surgery.....it has been discussed...and recently. I have been hospitalized twice...totaling close to 6 weeks. I have lost large amounts of weight, dealt with so many symtpoms. I can say that Bianca Weissman has helped me get better. Though i feel the best I have since being diagnosed...i still struggle with blisters on my hands and have to get iv infusions every 8 weeks....and my doctors are less than pleased with what they see under the microscope. This disease is pretty awful...and it can wreck your life. Im grateful for all the support my friends and family have given me over the years...and i encourage anyone who has an illness to let people know whats going on....because it can help you heal, find support and introduce things to you which you may not have tried. I hid this disease from my friends for nearly two years before i opened up.....and i wish i opened up sooner. Special shout out and prayers to my ibd friend, Nate Dunne who helped me...sadly he lost his battle last year..as his ibd and meds from the ibd made him ill in other ways. Never forget you nate!

Deer tick got me today good. Looks like I'm in need for a drs visit asap. But later today i travel to my second home away from home in the paintball community to PNL paintball to celebrate and honor our fallen. Pumpkin 3:16 and Nate Dunne the memories still forever live on. Btw yes i said paintball. Its been a few calendars since I've graced a field. I expect nothing but love, laughter, memories shared and of course many shenanigans to be had. I feel like a 6 yo on Xmas eve. To be touched by the paintball bug all over again is exciting. Nervous and yet ever so ready. I feel like my first trip to ION (2011) tonight. So much jitters and excitement. I'm definitely just jumping into the line fire at some point just to be blessed with rope to the body. Might even do the gauntlet for being such a Nancy for not sniping faces for the last few years. Either way. I'm feeling very blessed tonight. I'm beyond excited and honored be apart of this memory in the making. Let the shenanigans begin. And I seriously am gonna love getting my ass handed to me. I've been slacking. And getting old. No excuses.

Mike Breen This thread has spurred another memory - going grocery shopping with him when we first became roommates. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so excited over finding cans of Dinty Moore Beef Stew in my life! He insisted on stocking up.

Thurs and Friday we are celebrating the life of my oldest nephew Nate dunne,we are 7 years apart,he recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He left this world the toughest ,strongest warrior, fighting for his life for his beautiful wife Michelle Mugnano and his beautiful son, He was so smart and sweet, funny and a very talented musician he had lots of friends which I enjoyed reading their memories. My heart breaks for my nieces Katy Dunne Duckworth and Emily Dunne and my sweet beautiful sister Ann Marie who lost their dad and husband 6 months ago. In Memory of Nate, My Brother, My Hero

In December, a few days before Christmas, my brother Nate was diagnosed with terminal cancer. After a couple of months of surgeries, chemotherapy and many complications, he passed away on Thursday March 9th 2017. Nate was a fighter. Nate was the definition of bravery. Facing increasingly impossible odds, Nate continued to put the needs of others before his own. Every day that I spent with him, he asked me "Are you ok?" with selfless concern. Nate will always be one of the greatest, most caring people I have ever known.

My brother was legendary for his Camaro, his love of heavy metal and his talent for throwing a great Oktoberfest. The greatest impact my brother had on me came from his influence at my birthday parties; About ten minutes into the event, he would pull me aside and point out any of my friends that appeared left out, then direct me to bring them into the center of the celebration. This was my brother - a champion and leader of people in the name of inclusion. Not only was Nate my brother, but also a son, a husband, a father, a soccer coach, a hockey coach, a guitar player, a DJ, a semi-pro paintball player and a great friend to many, many people.

I will miss Nate every day. I am grateful for the time we spent together, especially during these past couple of months. I will always remember him for his bravery. He will always be my hero.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday, March 17, 2017, at 9:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., PEABODY, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Adelaide's Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the Lahey Hospital Medical Center, Attn: Cancer Research, c/o Philanthropy, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved leader and guitar player Nate Dunne. Nate touched all that were fortunate enough to become part of his life, and all became better people from the privilege which was knowing him. Having the front row seat that we in the band did to watching Nate play music while focusing beyond any pain and discomfort he felt at the time was inspirational to us all. He will be greatly missed and irreplaceable.

Scene 13 would like to thank all of the venues and friends that made each and every gig the special nights that they were. In lieu of flowers, please play your favorite records at maximum volume.

With love, Scene 13

Dear family and friends, I am so sad to tell you that my big brother Nate Dunne passed away Thursday after a valiant, three-month battle against an aggressive cancer. He fought like hell. I have never seen a person so strong, so stoic, so worried about everyone else while he was suffering. I will miss Nate so much. If I can be strong, it is because he taught me how. He showed me how to be original, and not to care what others think. He inspired me to get a Metallica patch on my denim jacket and love bands like Van Halen and Rush. Nate was my protector, my buddy, my partner in crime (we might have written each other's excusal notes when we skipped school once or twice.) We can only take solace now that he is at peace and able to be with our dad Jim Dunne and so many other loved ones in heaven.

To Nate's Friends and family : While Nate was in the hospital for 2.5 months,I read every text to him, every card every message . I showed him every video. When a friend called I informed him. Our family's never left his side the entire time he was in the hospital. Lahey Burlington Doctors and Nurses went above and beyond to save my husband and make him as comfortable as possible. Cural/Kindred Health as well. Nurses are gods Angels on earth and Doctors his Worriers. Unfortunately Nate's suffering could only be stopped by going Nate is in gods home now it was his time.... Nate and I both believe gods home is not far it is but a breath away. Today i feel him with me and my son, the past few days I knew and felt he he was with all of you. My Husband Nate Dunne is truly loved by many and he truly loved you all. I do know most of you and wish I had the pleasure of meeting the ones I do not know.
I always thought my husband Nate was a very good man a good honest soul and now I realize he was too good for this earth.
My son and I are so grateful for the out pouring of love it is helping through this very difficult time. Thank you Much love Shelly Dunne. Michelle Mugnano

Early March 9th, Thursday morning
Nate my husband my friend, my band mate of 20 years. My Love of my life Passed away with my arms wrapped around him as I kissed his face, his sister Mother and brother in-law by his side. My heart is breaking for all of us , my son my family his family and all his friends. To all that knew us would say we are soul mates.
Nate was a good man, an honest man, a hard worker, a technical and mechanical Genius. most of all a steadfast Friend and he absolutely loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved family he adored his nieces and nephew's and friends Every thing he did he did with all his heart. Nate Dunne fought up until his last breath the would not give up, he refused hospice many times to continued fighting. His words "I can't put my hands up I have a 7 year old son, I won't give up, I won't do hospice " He will forever be in my heart and my family member's hearts
I will post service information when I receive it.

We were trail blazers he and I. People in our support group with so happy that we could play again . I will take that event and your husband's memory to my grave. GOD BLESS YOU Michelle!

Yesterday I couldn't find the words beyond putting an old picture up. Today my stomach is still in knots over the loss of my friend Nate Dunne, but at least I can post something now. We knew each other for 23 years and played together for 20 of those in several different bands with several different musical styles. Even when we weren't playing directly together any longer you still were involved in giving opinions on my material and asking for opinions on yours, and you engineered an absolutly fantastic drum sound for me. You were more than just a friend and bandmate. You were such a huge part of my life that we were like brothers. I'm gonna miss you, bro. Until we meet again, rock on.

Earl Irving I can't believe he is gone. You guy's were the first original band I ever put together and was the front man. You fellas even though it was a one time show at the old Claddah in Lawrence. Y'all put in so much time to make me and my songs sound great. That life changing experience gave me the conference to "Keep it Movin" and put me where I am today as a musician. But more importantly how to be a decent human being. I'm pretty sure Nate is having a jack and coke with Lemmy right about now......So a Toast to our friend...

I am unbelievably distraught. ... I just found out that my friend, fellow musician and cancer survivor Nate Dunne has passed away. Nate and I met at a Lahey support group for head and neck cancers. WE HAD THE SAME CANCER. It was there I found out that Nate was a bass player and a singer. Both of our voices took terrible hits from the radiation and chemotherapy we had to absorb to get well. Ours were enflamed terribly with the end results being Dry mouth for the rest of our lives. It took a long time to be able to get our physical strength back as well as our voices. Once we were much better we were encouraged to perform for the group which turned into an event for the entire Hospital. Nate and I performed a concert inside Lahey Medical Center in their Amphitheater. It was the first time music had ever been played there.

We both sang.
We both played.

Other Survivors were in the audience. Our doctors, nurses and anesthesiologists were in the audience. People passing by the auditorium came in to hear the performance. and if I may say so myself so we were fucking great. So great in fact that we were asked to play an Outdoor Show at the 5K run to raise money for cancer support. I so enjoyed making it over that hurdle with him. Neither one of us thought we would ever sing again. At the worst case, we could barely talk much less sing. But it got better for the both of us. We will both so grateful!

I bonded with everyone in that support group but no one more than Nate.

His passing has shaken me to my Core. He was my mirror and now I've lost my reflection. Lord Jesus, take him into your arms, rest his soul and be there for his family. Amen. Oh my god, my god......

We lost our friend Nate Dunne to his long battle with cancer, To say Nate was a solid guy is a understatement, I have so many great memories like our 1st band with Dave Duffy,Roger Caruso and Fred B . Going camping @ jelly stone park with Kirk Baldwin and getting pulled over NH state cop made us take everything out of kirks car because we had long hair. You yelling at Everett Boynton for touching your amp knob you said don't do that he said why, I don't think you had a good reason so you being quick witted said that's one less time that knob will turn. I've played tons of gigs in my life but most of the gigs I played was with you. I'll never forget the laughs we got when someone hit a wrong note or if you felt tempo was to slow, you would act like you were falling a sleep. I'm going to miss the little dance you did when we played just a girl, I don't even think you realized you were doing it but man it cracked me up! I remember the day I met Shelly @ you guys house in Billerica, you told me she was also a musician I thought that was awesome that you two shared that bond. Shelly you and Christian are in my thoughts and prayers through these though times. Rip Nate you will be missed my friend ;(

Matter of fact, he'd probably tell me I was doing it wrong and have a better way of disposing. This scene reminds me of him. RIP Nate.

We lost our friend Nate Dunne today after a long, courageous battle with cancer. I wanted to take a minute to write (slightly more than) a few words about him.
I met you when I was 17 in 1990, like a month after I graduated high school. I was walking home to Randolph from a party in Holbrook. It would've taken hours if my friend Kirk hadn't seen me as he was driving by. He picked me up & we got to talking. He said his friend Derick had started a band & they were looking for a bassist. (Kirk knew I played bass from our many chats sitting in the back of Mr. McKey's typing class my senior year) I was stoked. I went down & met you guys and we all hit it off instantly. We would call ourselves Shattered Innocence.
With you I was in my first band, played my first show, cut my first demo, first photo shoot. So many firsts.
A band member would come & go from time to time over the next few years. And eventually we, too, even parted ways. But something happened in those few years we jammed. You met all my friends. And you've remained friends with them. Over the years we'd see each other here & there but I guess life just got in the way of us seeing each any other more often than that. But since you were still close with my circle of friends we've never been more than arms length apart.
It all came full circle about 15 years ago when all our bands played a show together and you, Rob , Jay & I all got up and played a couple of the old songs. And more recently, only like 5 yrs ago, you, Derick & I started jamming again too for a little while.
Even after all these years I still keep going back & thinking about that chance meeting of Kirk seeing me & picking me up that day.
Fate brought us together musically at such a young, formative age. We're cut from the same cloth. Every note I have ever played since has you written all over it. Every note I will ever play will have you written all over it. I'm so thankful for that. But more importantly I'm thankful that I count you as a friend.
You fought long & hard right up to the very end. You deserve to rest in the sweetest peace. I love you, brother. Shattered Innocence forever, my friend.

Heartbroken to hear the news.....

I have known Nate for close to 40 years. He was not simply a neighborhood friend, he was a brother to me, as he was to many.

It's cliche but the world has lost about as rock solid a human being as I have ever had the pleasure of having in my life. From the early days listening to him trying to emulate Dave Mustaine on that first guitar to the joys of watching him later succeed as an accomplished musician. And most importantly, watching him mature into the man he became. loved by everyone he came into contact with.

Through the years, Nate remained true to who he was.....you knew what you were getting and all of it was good. And that laugh/snicker of his...priceless.

Rock on, my friend. You are already missed.

A peaceful man stands tall.
