Con profundo dolor tomó conocimiento, del fallecimiento de quien fuera el más celebrado estudioso y divulgador de la obra de José Batlle y Ordoñez.
Como Batllista, en ésta hora de profundo recogimiento, envío mis sentidas condolencias a sus dolientes. A mi compatriota Doña Elsa, a la distancia, en un apretado abrazo, le acompaño en sentimiento.

I served in the American Embassy in Montevideo in the mid ‘80’s.   In retirement I am reading Dr. Vanger’s three part biography of Jose Batlle y Ordonez.  I wish I had read it years ago.  It is superbly written with great insight into the innovative man.  It reveals such intense and deep research and knowledge of the time,  I regret I could not get this tribute to Dr Vanger before he died.
