I'm so sorry to hear this sad news.  "Mrs Girard" was such a lovely woman and a dear friend and constant colleague to my grandmother, Frances de Bretteville.  I will always treasure my memories of them working together with their grace, humor, and sharp intellects.

I am so very sad to learn about Maureen's death.   She was a grand lady and a loyal member of the Robinson Jeffers Tor House team.  She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Girard was a great English teacher. She helped me on my path a re-entry student. I finished my studies and am now a teacher. She was a true inspiration to me.

Though Maureen and I were distant cousins, and for several years lived in Eagle Rock, CA, we never met in person.  We found each other on about 12 years ago.  We spent many hours researching together.  She was so eager to share pictures and family stories. I can only hope I filled in some missing pieces for her.  She was a gracious, kind and generous lady.  I shall miss her.

Maureen welcomed me into her family with acceptance and love. She was my little buddy, and my "adopted" Mom in this lifetime. Our vacations with her are forever memorable and my heart aches for not having her, visibly, in my life anymore. Her love, warmth, and welcoming smile have left an idelible mark on my heart.

I only had one contact with Maureen in 2004.   I just rediscovered her quick complete and thoughtful response to my query about Hooker family stuff.  She gave me the complete rundown and I decided to look her up today.  I waited too long.  Now that I realize what a great lady she was, I lament that we never got together.  I'd love to meet her brothers who live near me (I'm in Yucaipa CA).
