What a lovely tribute to your mom, Cindy. I love the photos, especially the older ones and your wedding photo. What happy, long life she must've had. I'm thinking of you and your family and wishing you great memories to comfort you. Robin Novack McCrae
Mom was my hero! She taught me about strength, independence, compassion, hard work, helping others, creativity, and what it means to be a mother. I cannot imagine having to face what she faced, but she did and she survived. She was my mother and father, making sure I had an incredible childhood. And she continued guiding me as an adult. I was blessed having you as a mom! Love you! Miss you
I only vaguely remember your mother, but I do indeed remember Bill. Your dad and my father were friends through Kiwanis. One day your dad popped by our house with, I think, a load of apples. He was kidding around and told me he was really at the house to check my teeth. My father and Bill wrestled me to the floor for a fast look at my teeth. Looking back it was hilarious--50+ years.
Mrs. Strangman was the mother of my best bud Cindy. We were neighbors out in toro park, Salinas. She and my dad would check with each other to make sure we were where we said we would be. It must have been a difficult job raising 2 teenage daughters by herself, but she did it with the strength of two parents. We couldn't get away with much, although we tried, because she was a constant
presence in her daughter's lives. When we graduated from high school
Mrs. Strangman took Cindy and I to the Pine Inn in Carmel for a wonderful dinner. You could just see the happiness in her eyes just knowing that she was seeing her last child's passage to adulthood begin. She was a strong example of a good Mom.
