Early morning on August 1, 2018, our dearest mother, Lourdes C. Toledo, was called back home to Heaven at the age of 84 having lived a life full of grace and kindness. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister and mentor who will truly be missed by those she has left behind. Born on April 25, 1934, Lourdes was the youngest child of Paula and Federico dela Cruz of Cavite City in the Philippines and is preceded in passing by her parents, sister, Soledad, and her two brothers, Antonio and Edgardo. Coming from a family of teachers and U.S. Naval engineers, she chose the path of nursing and attained degrees from The University of the Philippines, Philippines Women’s University and the Chinese General Hospital. She then travelled to the United States to continue her education and secure employment. It was while she was studying for her postgraduate degree at Philadelphia’s Jefferson Medical College in 1965 that she caught the eye of an adventurous Navyman stationed in South Carolina who was visiting the area. After a whirlwind courtship (and a lot of driving), she and her determined Navyman, Leonard A. Toledo (who also preceded her and returned to God in 2003) were married. Moving to California where they would build a home and raise three children, she devoted 28 years as a Registered Nurse to treating her patients with integrity, respect and empathy initially at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco and then at Alexian Brother’s Hospital (Postpartum Unit) in San Jose before retiring in June 2000 (Regional Medical Center of San Jose).

Lourdes leaves behind her beloved children Raymond, Michael, Joyce and her Son-in-Law, Kevin as well as many relatives and dear friends. A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery & Funeral Center in Lafayette, CA. The family will receive friends and family only please from 2:00pm – 3:00pm at St. Cecelia’s Chapel with funeral liturgy to immediately follow. An avid reader and animal lover, Lourdes had requested that support and contributions please be given to your local public libraries and animal shelters in lieu of flowers.

You were such an unbelievably gentle, kind, supportive, caring and giving person -- I truly admired your outlook & philosophy on Life. While I may never achieve your degree of patience and Faith, I will continue to strive to be better until we meet again someday in Heaven.
