Died suddenly in his Franklin home August 1st at the age of 68. Originally of West Roxbury, he was the beloved husband of Melissa J. (Polner), and father of Matthew, Adam, Douglas, and Patrick. He was the proud grandfather to four and was predeceased by his parents Lucille (Carey) and Leo, as well as his sister Lucy.
Les proudly served his country both in the US and abroad in the Air Force, INS, and the FBI. As a special agent in Florida, New York, Providence, and Boston, he was known for his dogged persistence as he led numerous cases to successful prosecution, most notably as a gang buster in New York. Admired as a scholar with a crazy streak, he made lifelong friendships while defending our country.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Horace Mann Educational Associates of Hopedale, MA.
It was an honor and privilege to know Les. His dedication to protecting the United States will always serve as an inspiration. He was a well read intellectual who offered insightful perspectives on a variety of subjects. I am a better person due to my good fortune in knowing Les McNulty.
I met Les in 1984, when we were New Agents at the FBI Academy. We remained close throughout our careers, as well as after. Les was a patriot, a scholar, an outstanding Special Agent, a devoted father and husband, and my best friend. I loved him and I miss him. My life, this country and this world is so much better because of Les. He will always be in my heart.
Les, I will miss you, especially your sense of humor and honor. Your FBI colleagues will undoubtedly miss you and you left an impeccable investigative legacy in both Boston and NYO. My heart goes out to you and your family during this difficult time. So long my friend. Mark
There has never been, nor will there ever be, anyone quite like Les. He was truly one-of-a-kind. A great man, a stellar FBI Agent, a steadfast friend, and a quick wit. We miss you, Les, and will keep you forever in our thoughts and prayers.
Les was a remarkable friend and colleague, a true public servant and family man who always placed the interests of others ahead of his own. I learned much from him, including how to be a better person. He enriched the lives of all those who were lucky to know him. He is dearly missed.
Les was a patriot and a very kind man. He was a wonderful colleague and friend, generous to all those in need, and a person who stood for honor, integrity, and commitment to his family and country. Les, you will certainly be missed. May God bless your soul. Rest In Peace my friend.
Les, my "Singapore dad" was always there for me when I needed his support. He was truly the best boss I have ever had. A man with who will give his heart to anyone. You will truly be missed. I will always cherish our time together in Singapore. We miss you! Fly with angles.
Les. You and I first met during your time in Ukraine. You and your family have been nothing but hospitable to myself and the rest of the Marines. You have made America and those around you better. You will be missed.
One of the good guys. You'll be missed. Rest in peace, Les.
We met as new Agents at the FBI Academy and from that moment I knew Les was something special. A great Agent, a wonderful human being and a very funny man. You will indeed be missed. Fair winds and smooth sailing my friend.
Missy and the family: It was a shock to me receiving your message about Les passing. He just recently sent me a lengthy email updating all of your activities. Les was a family man and a great investigator who loved history and humour and spoke about his family proudly. I respected and loved him very much and will miss him dearly. We had a lot of great times. Reg King RCMP (retired)
We are at a loss to find the right words to describe our deep sadness in the passing of our dear friend, Les. He brought so much happiness and joy to our lives. From the moment we met Les we could tell that he was a kind, bright, caring and funny human being. Les loved his family and his friends. So blessed he came into our lives. May God bless your soul and comfort your beautiful family.
Les was a great person and friend who many of us met from our days at Quantico in 1984. I still remember him referring to us as "knumb nuts" when we all messed up from time-to-time. I am saddened by his passing. We are lucky to have known him and the world has lost a great human being; my prayers and condolences to the family. RIP, good buddy.
My wife and I are sorry for your loss. I worked for him on several surveillances in NYC and was always serious about work but with a great sense of humor. RIP
I worked with Les on the Asian and Russian OC squads in the New York Office. He was a great investigator and a great friend. We retired on the same day in 2007 and have maintained contact over the years. I will miss his good nature and humor. I am so saddened by his loss I will keep him and your family in my prayers. Rest in peace old friend.

He was an outstanding FBI agent and a great patriot who lived in service to our country. He was also a really funny guy who loved to laugh. Les loved his family and was very proud of all of his sons. Les cooperated with Ukraine's Interpol office via me on a good many occasions in 2003-2004. His working attitudes, intelligence skills, readiness to make that very step beyond the line of duty to ensure FBI interests, easiness in communication with anyone and an ability to maintain simple friendly relationships were impressive and will remain so. Condolences to the family. RIP, Les!
Lester -- I loved the guy. Eminently serious, yet indeed with a wild and fun streak. An open heart. It was a privilege to know him. When I reached out a couple of years ago, after decades of no contact, he was there, as I'd known he would be. I tried to get in touch with him over this summer, but we played phone tag, and now ... RIP buddy. I miss you very much.
Les-We met in the 80s in a joint task force. Les was a true patriot, and a cops cop. But beyond all that, he was a great friend. I will miss his smile, his stories, and his sense of humor.
Rest in peace.
Les, you have been gone 3 years now, but I still miss you deeply. We hold on to the great memories of time with you...in the Bureau, various fishing and hunting trips with our boys, and vacations.
You will remain in my heart.

So many challenges large and small that need your attention and your good advice. I wish we could talk, but such is life…. You are missed and loved.
To Missy: I just found out. Les and I served together in the NYO on the same squad. Les helped me keep my sanity as we commuted from PA to Manhattan. My two years with Les were filled with wisecracks, discussions of family, politically incorrect commentary, and more wisecracks. My best memories of New York included Les and I was the lucky one for having known him. Condolences.
Dear Papa,
I miss you so much, I remember that whenever you would see me you would pick me up and spin me in your arms. I was your little princess and I will always be, you should've been here with us. I miss you so much Papa
