Karen was one of the most wonderful people I have ever known - in so many ways, supporting the environment and its appropriate use and care, and caring deeply for others. "Mom" Roberta Smith
I've known Karen for 30 years and have seen her as a kid, a student, a globe traveler, a mom, a conservationist, and a miracle survivor. Karen has always been an inspiration for all around her and I am lucky to have known her. May you rest in peace Karen.
As Mat & I welcomed our newborn Rowan, we listened fearfully to the anxious sounds of medical personnel next door and a woman in pain. Little did we know it was Karen bringing Cole into the world. He was breech & too late for a Caesarean, so this Valkyrie faced a challenge few could. Hers was never the easy way. It was always the loving and valiant way. All our love, the Rowleys.
You were always simply and complexly amazing. Ever chewing on sunflower seeds while applying deep thought to everything you undertook...seasoned always with a sharp humor. Your radiant face, beautiful big smile, and intensely caring heart will leave a big hole here in Santa Cruz County and the world at large. May you rest in peace.
