John asked me to work with him in 1979- he was a larger-than-life, self-taught, self-starter. "JOP" was a consummate professional, respected & known throughout the US investment field. I have long-remembered his depth of humor & character from the years we were together. We were so grateful to reconnect in our investment group in recent years & the warm, fun, reminiscence we enjoyed.
Jim - This news comes with deep sadness. John stood as a tall pedestal among men - He stood alone. We have lost a wonderful, honest man; a person who was still in the fullness of his life and had lots more love to give to others. Stork
I met John when he was presiding over an event as Chairman of the Peabody Essex Museum. He could not have been more kind and welcoming. What a great guy. In 2010, he and Olivia hosted the Tenth Anniversary Celebration of the Asian Art Society of New England. Everyone really enjoyed their home and gracious hospitality. I will really miss John. There was really no one like him.
I had known John for many years but was not intimate, my loss indeed.
After listening to the tributes paid to him at his service by friends, associates and family it is clear he was truly a gentleman and a doer of good works and will be greatly missed by all...and not soon forgotten.
