ALBUS, John “Jack” William, age 92, passed away Tuesday, October 11. After 7 years apart, he is finally reunited with his best friend and wife of 62 years, Martha Jane Shands Albus. Jack was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1924 to William E. Albus and Margaret Jarvice Albus. In Jack’s youth, he moved to Richmond, where he attended Thomas Jefferson High School with his future wife. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Jack returned from a tour in the South Pacific and married Martha Jane in 1947. He worked for VEPCO as an electrical engineer for 42 years before retiring. In the early 50s, Jack and Martha Jane helped found St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. They adopted a son, John W. Albus Jr., in 1953 and a daughter, Martha Winston Albus, in 1956. Jack is survived by his son, John; grandchildren, JD, Alex, Mitch, Sam, Meredith, and Jay; great-grandchildren, Kyler, Caleb, Will, and Cassidy. The memorial service will be held at 11 AM on November 7 in the garden at St. Michael’s.
Jack was a pioneer in power system telecommunications, and was well respected by his utility telecommunications peers throughout the southeast for his knowledge and experience.
He was a fine and caring person in every regard, and he was a very important person in my life.
