I worked with Richard in the School of Education for many years. He was a wonderful educator and a really good person. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

Richard was a frequent visitor to our office in the School of Education at VCU. We looked forward to his visits and his wonderful stories. He will be missed.

Dr. Gayle was one of my favorite teachers at VCU. When i was one of the view international students in class, he always made me feel comfortable, understood and welcomed.
I have his recommendation letter, he wrote me in 2012 , hanging above my desk,
What a great human to be missed!

I met Richard in 1969 in Kenitra Morocco as we served together in the US Navy.  Although it's been 55years since we met I can still remember his witty sense of humor and laughter.  A great fellow and teammate
