This memorial website was created in the memory of wife, mother, and friend, Dolores McKinney. We will remember her forever.
Dolores "Lois" McKinney (née Lucas) was born October 27, 1941 in Rocky Mount, NC to Alma Lucas and Lawrence Batts. She attended Annie W. Hollow School and graduated from Booker T. Washington School in 1959. She married Foster McKinney, a young neighbor, on October 11, 1964. Being a stoic wife to a military man has allowed Lois the privilege to travel and enabled her to live in several states including Maine and California over the span of 21 years. She settled in Pittsburg, CA where she encouraged her family to be involved in church, work hard, and be independent. In 1975, she applied for position of mail handler at the Bulk Mail Center (BMC) in Richmond, CA and worked there for 30 years.
Lois's family and friends remember her beautiful smile, easy laughter, and lovely spirit. Lois was accomplished at playing cards and enjoyed being in the company of family and friends. She was friendly with everyone whom she came in contact with. Lois loved to travel to destinations by car, plane, boat, or camper. She was a generous individual who loved the Lord an who was passionate home-keeping. She was pretty, witty, classy, and had a strong sense of style. She was a beacon of light and will be greatly missed.
Lois departed this life peacefully at Willow Pass Health Center on July 1, 2016 in Concord, CA at the age of 74 after battling Alzheimer's/Dementia.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Foster McKinney of Pittsburg, CA; children: Michael Lucas of NC, Tonya Daniels of NC, Trecena McKinney of TN, Trinette McClain (Stacy) of GA, and L'Nette Jackson (Michael) of TN; sister, Shirley Newsome (Jimmy) of NC; grandchildren: Tanisha Barnes, Marcus Lucas, Toesha Jones, and Timothy Jones, Germany Lucas, Michael Lucas Jr, and Jeanna Lucas, Bria McKinney, Vallee McClain, Sidney McClain, and Stacia McClain, Mykel Jackson, Jaeda Jackson, and Katina Jackson, 11 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives. She is preceded in death by mother Alma Lucas of NC, father Lawrence Batts of NC, and brother George Lucas of NC.
Delores was a very caring, loving and gracious lady. She was a great inspiration and source of support for me and my son, Thomas. A great lady of class who sincerely loved her family. All who have had the privilege of knowing her and being in her presence came away with something warm, wonderful and good. Rest in peace sister-in-law. You will always be remembered and loved.
