This is a wonderful picture and a perfect way to remember someone so full of life! All you had to do was mention a trip or project you were thinking about and she would say, "well, let's do it!" That smile and the sparkle in her eye meant she was already planning a next event or adventure. So lucky to have known her, so lucky to have called her my friend. My thoughts are with you, Bill
Bertie was one of a kind. I'll always be grateful for her warm welcome when I first moved to Richmond. She was kind, gracious, warm, smart, and savvy. With a great sense of humor. My thoughts are with Bill, another one of a kind, and her family. Peace to all.
Bertie was a rare gift of a person, and someone whom to know is to love. She saw people with great insight, and could be as humorous and witty as she could be supportive and loving. Her ability to reach out to others; to get to know them, ask after them, and make them feel included was truly exceptional. My sincerest condolences go out to her loving husband Bill, and her wonderful family.
Bertie was warm, funny, smart, and brilliant at putting all sorts of people at ease. Her and Bill's b&b was a delightful oasis and retreat for me and countless others in town to work at the Virginia Historical Society. She was magnificent. I will never forget her.
