Al was a cherished MIT colleague to my father in law, Abe Siegel. Abe and Al were a formidable leadership team for MIT Sloan. We saw Al many times in Osterville and always enjoyed his company. He was a wise and kind man who always saw the best in others. He will be deeply missed.
Al Silk was my mentor, colleague, co-author, and cherished friend. The skills and values that I learned from him continue to influence my research to this day. He was an institution builder. He was always willing to lend a hand to those around him who reached out to him for feedback and help.
I just learned of Al's passing. He was the chair of my PhD thesis committee, a suppotive, friendly, scholarly person I enjoyed greatly. We workked together at the Marketing Science in the Summer of 1971, ate lunch almost every day somewhere in Harvard Square, a most pleasurable experience.

Al was a great scholar but also a man of warmth and support for PhD students. I will always be grateful for his care and gentleness.
