He was a great modeler. I enjoyed his C&NW modeling, the traction modeling and a great friend whom I looked forward to seeing at the O Scale West meetings.
Alf was a mentor to me in the hobby of model railroading. He worked on some of my models and was gracious in showing me his and sharing his knowledge. My wife Dani and I have many good memories of quality time spent with friends Alf and Ev at C&NW Meets, the Chicago O and O Scale West Meets, and dinners out and at their home. Both always have been gracious hosts. Rest in peace, big guy!
I first met Alf many years ago when he lived in Daly City.
Kirby Churchill and I would come over from Oakland and look at his beautiful O-gauge North Shore interurban layout. Kirby and I were active at the East Bay Model Engineers Society where we ran Interurbans too. God Bless his family! I hope his North Shore models find a good home!
Alf was hired as an Electromechanic for VTA in San Jose. He became the oldest Electromechanic at the facility and immediately became a celebrity. I was an EM also and his Union Rep. After he retired he became active in the Retiree Committee where he became famous for his bad jokes. We ended every meeting with one of them! You'll be missed Alf. RIP brother.
