Dr. Fischer's energetic mind and devotion to education was a major reason why I received my doctorate in education last October at the age of 69. His vision of linking neuroscience to education inspired me to work in the field of education after a career in law. May he respect in peace while his legacy lives on to inspire others.
Kurt Fischer’s vision of an education model informed by robust scientific findings, stripped of age-old dogmas, and accessible to all is much closer to realization today through his extraordinary lifetime of work. Like all great educators, he helped us to believe in our own potentials. I will never forget his kindness to me and feel privileged to have known him.
"Hang in there." That is the advice that Kurt gave me warmly, calmly, and softly when I had encountered various challenges during the doctoral program. Now I always tell my own students positively, firmly, and loudly, "Hang in there!!" when they face various professional and personal challenges. This is one of the life-long impacts Kurt had made on us. At peace, Kurt.
Kurt was a great advisor to me. I still remember when I first landed in US and his kind words and smile eased all my anxiety. When I wanted to quit after one year of my doctoral study, he humorously pointed out my problem and I ended up graduating in advance. Every visits with him after graduation was a joy. His wisdom, devotion to research and caring for students will be missed. RIP Kurt
I am sure that I am not alone when I say that Dr. Kurt Fischer has changed my life and, as a result, changed the lives of millions of children around the world. I have never met such a kind and understanding person, and it was an honor to be his student while he was leading his program. His assignments stretched and broke the limitations of his students and translates to the world.
"All good things..." is what Dr. Fischer wrote when I asked for his autograph. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get. Let us remember these words of encouragement and use it has a guide as we carry out his legacy.
Thank you, Kurt, I still remember what you have done to help us launch the educational neuroscience program which I believe it will benefit the Chinese students generation to generation as more and more universities are planning to build the program in China. Thank you, Kurt, for supporting me to walk further and further in this new field and to make my dreams come true one by one.
I will always be grateful for Dr. Fischer. He has changed so many people's lives, including mine, for the better. Learning from him was such a gift as he could make connections across so many disciplines. He not only was brilliant, but also cared deeply about others. I am inspired by how he used his talents to have such a great impact in this world.
